Caloirie count: Truly track your calories for 1-2 weeks, trying to stay 500 calories below your required amount. Formulas online are available to calculate your estimated daily calorie needs. Many patients think they are eating below their needs, but upon true calorie counting, find they have been overeating. Also, metabolic problems such as hypothyroidism must be considered, and a simple blood test will tell you.

MD consult: At your age, with a moderate diet and exercise, weight would not normally be a problem. One possible avenue of investigation would be of the thyroid gland. If it is not working as it should your metabolism can be affected, and hence weight gain.
