No: A steroid cannot cause hsv infection. Hsv is a virus that is transmitted to children often transplacentally from the mother in utero. Certainly, the virus can be transmitted orally via oral contact with someone carrying the virus. The steroid can suppress the immune system and allow the virus to activate and become a problem, as it did in this child's esophagus.
