H pylori: H pylori is an organism that can live in mucosa that predisposes to ulcer. Additionally any changes in stomach and esophagus that are or predispose to developing cancer.

Bacteria, cells: Biopsy of duodenal, stomach and/or esophageal tissue is performed to help diagnose various disease processes. Celiac disease, gastritis types and esophagitis can be confirmed with biopsy. H. Pylori bacteria can be seen as well, a cause of ulcer disease. Cancerous and pre-cancerous tissue is also best evaluated with biopsy for proper diagnosis.
