Not for wt loss: Metformin is not a drug for weight loss. Its designed to help people with Insulin resistant diabetes the safest way to lose weight is by making good choices, portion control and by bbeing more active.

It is a poor therapy: For weight reduction, normal or diabetic patients in ukpds , diabetics lost 3 lbs in 1 year, were back to baseline in three years, gained weight in in 3 more years better agents for patients diabetic are glp-1 receptor agonists- also work n non-diabetic patients with metabolic syndrome, but not yet approved yet by fda to treat obesity, but safe to do so.
