Not a good idea: It's never a good idea to take a medicine for which you don't have a clear medical indication for. I applaud you for looking into all avenues to lose weight. That's very important. But metformin does have potential side effects which is acceptable in my opinion if you have diabetes. But for pure weight loss, i would not recommend it.

Not smart: Metformin is indicated for the management of type 2 diabetes. It is not a weight loss drug and should not be used as such. 10 percent of patients using metformin experience significant stomach disorders.

No, sorry: Metformin is not safe for weight loss. For losing weight, eat palm sized portion lean protein + complex carb every 3hr;3 tsp fat/oil/day, 4 fruits ;4veggies/day. Exercise 30-50 min/day 6 days perweek. You can spread out the exercise -- not all in one block... Like 3 20min blocks/day. 80-100 oz water/day important for cells to work optimally!

Listen to your body: Metformin is not as effective as diet and exercise for weight loss. Eating 6 equal meals, getting a good night sleep, and walking or doing other light fun exercise for 10 minutes after each meal is more helpful. Make sure 25-oh vit d3 is in a healthy range and your body temperature is 97.6 or higher.

Yes. Not dangerous: Metformin is an effective weight loss agent. Weight gain is often due to insulin-resistance and secondary hyperinsulinemia. As we get older, we all tend to become insulin resistant, and consequently tend to gain weight. Metformin is a "metabolic rejuvenator," which restores insulin receptor sensitivity, normalizes blood glucose and insulin, blocks hepatic gluconeogenesis, resulting in fat loss.
