Possible.: Metformin can induce wt loss through GI side effects and also through reduction in insulin level. However the effect in non diabetics would be expected to be minor if any.

Not usually..: While weight loss may occur while taking metformin, weight loss is not usually the reason the medicine is prescribed. The drug does have to be taken under the supervision of a prescribing doctor.
