Antibiotics will: There is no need to be unduly concerned about the spread of infection. If you had an infection, your dentist should have given you a prescription for antibiotics which should prevent the spread of any infection. Immune system: If you are not immune-compromised, the infection-fighting components of your immune system in the blood stream will usually be quite protective. Dental abscesses have no blood supply so fairly high levels of systemic antibiotics are necessary to be effective. Once your full immune system comes into play via the blood stream the infection will usually resolve more rapidly.
