A cause of knee pain: A knee "plica" refers to a band of fibrous tissue in the knee joint. Plica are normally found in the knee and are usually asymptomatic. Occasionally, a plica may become thicken and therefore cause knee pain.

Medial plica: Plica means shelf. This unfolded synovial tissue may get pinched & inflamed, leading to pain & snapping medial & distal to the patella.
