Varies: First, it is pretty unusual for a 62yo to have plica syndrome, so you would want to make sure that is the correct diagnosis. A plica itself is an abnormal band of soft tissue that can be irritated and inflamed, often as it runs against the femoral condyle. The plica itself does not heal in and of itself, but the symptoms from an episode may resolve with rest, ice, nsaids, and steroid shots.

Physical therapy.: Ice the plica region for 20 minutes at a time, 3-4 times per day. Also, physical therapy could be beneficial in resolving your symptoms. Sometimes a cortisone shot is helpful. Last resort is surgery, but the results are great, if your the right candidate for it.
