Bunion surgery, now pain in ball of foot. what next?

Capsulitis: Most bunion surgeries involve an osteotomy of the first metatarsal. This means using a small saw to cut the bone and shift it in a more anatomical position. This cut shortens the bone slightly. This can result in the shifting of stress to the second metatarsal bone and, at times, cause pain to the ball of the foot. Depends: Bunion surgery often takes at least 3 months of recovery but in some cases 6 months. If you have not been through physical therapy following your surgery or had range of motion therapy that would be your next step. If it has been years since your surgery pain in the ball of the foot can be a variety of conditions including for example:sesamoiditis, neuroma, or plantar plate injury.

See you doctor.: There can many causes of pain in th ball after bunion surgery. Sometime the parabola of the foot is abnormal after surgery ( the way metatarsal are aligned). I would see your doctor and try an orthotic to try and rebalance the foot.

Have it evaluated.: Sometimes people will get transfer pain following a procedure. Have it evaluated and consult with your surgeon.
