Not many: The american academy of orthopaedic surgeons lists infection, blood clots in the leg and complications from anesthesia as potential complications of arthroscopic surgery. According to "synovial plicae around the knee, " resection of the plica can result in bleeding into the joint, and reformation of a scarred plica when removal of the plica is incomplete.

Diagnosis is key!: Arthroscopic plica removal surgery carries similar risks to most arthroscopic knee surgeries which is a very common/safe procedure. Correct diagnosis is the key to success and improvement in symptoms! often a carefully placed injection as well as appropriate physical examination can determine whether or not you truly have a symptomatic plica. Occasionally it can be verified with MRI evaluation.
