I hear it can take years for lasik induced dry eye to heal, because it can take up to 5 years for the severed corneal nerves to heal is that true?

Dry eye post lasik: It may take up to 5 years for the corneal nerves to regain the density that was present before lasik. And it is true that some people permanently have dry eye symptoms after lasik. Dry eye symptoms are common after lasik, but most people return to normal by 6 months after the procedure. While lasik may sever up to 90% of corneal nerves, not all are required for the tear production to normalize.

Incorrect info: That is incorrect information. First - it is important to identify dry eye prior to lasik. Many patients have lasik because they are not comfortable in their contact lenses - and this is usually due to dry eye. If a patient has lasik without pre-existing dry eye - then while they can get some dryness - it is temporary if treated with therapeutic meds like topical anti-inflammatory meds.
