Get help now: Sadness is a natural response to loss and painful things. One grieves what is lost, and then reconstructs life in a new way. Depression, however, is an illness that can lead to suicidal thoughts. Thinking you "shouldn't be here" indicates you need prompt evaluation & help -- please see your physician asap. 1-800-273-8255 is also a national hotline that can connect you with local resources.

Methylprednisolone: Dr pappas' response is rich with important information. I just want to explore one issue - your methylprednisolone. Were you depressed before starting this med? This med can lead to depression, mood swings & even loss of touch with reality. It can exacerbate pre-existing mood disorders. You need professional help. Insure that you address your mood with the doctor prescribing your steroids.

No: It may be neither. You might have a medical problem causing your symptoms. Hypothyroidism is a possibility. Many doctors do not do a full thyroid work up and might miss the problem.

Listen carefully to Dr. Fowler. See someone soon. If you can, develop a non-judgemental friendship with somebody you can trust. Do not beat yourself endlessly over this. Remember that your feelings may only be feelings and not reality. Get help.
