Celexa (citalopram): Not by itself, but in combination with mood stabilizers.

Caution: Citalopram can treat depression. The issue is, that -- in patients who have bipolar disorder -- antidepressants like citalopram can increase the risk of switching from a depressed or normal mood to one that is manic. Often a mood stabilizer is added to prevent such a mood switch. So it is important to discuss this issue and how to deal with it in advance with your psychiatrist.

Do not recommend: it''s use for monotherapy. It may trigger mania or hypomania.
