Is it prudent to ask doctor about doing a tap to check for ascitis prior to abdominal hernia repair sugery in a patient with esld.?

Surprised: If end stage liver disease must be a very complicated hernia to anticipate surgery for hernia. Surgeon will do what's required to manage. Regretfully fluid tends to reaccumulate rapidly if end stage.

May be: It is good to know if u have fluid build up b4 hernia surgery but u do not start with tap. Have them do an ultrasound. It is non invasive and very accurate.

Yes, but no tap: And the best test for this would be a simple ultrasound, . Best to try to control the ascites before hernia repair. Also probably best to use a laparoscopic approach for certain hernia types. I would ask about this as well.
