Depends: The size of hernia and the contents of the hernia sac, the presence of serious complications like ascites (fluid in abdomen), incarceration and/or strangulation (bowel trapped in hernia sac) will have large impact on the risk/benefit analysis and the surgical repair and recovery time. Ok to ask your surgery team. Have family with you.

6-8weeks. High risk : Pt with esld with ascites can have abdominal leaks causing recurrences and infections so be careful.
