A member asked:

I want to know during an inguinal hernia surgery (open repair with mesh) what does a doctor do to hernia sac and spermatic cord?

Fixes it: The doctor will either remove the sac or push it back inside. The spermatic cord can be moved around so as not to damage anything contained therein. Sometimes we have to open the cord to get inside to fix the hernia. We stay away from the nerves, vessels and vas.

Hernia sac: Is either ligated high and excised, or left open or imbricated if it is small. Spermatic cord is always preserved.
