Your rescue inhaler: Albuterol, the classic medication in the rescue inhaler, is a fairly effective anti-tussive; that is, it helps suppress cough.

Cough variant asthma: Dry cough could be related to asthma. This condition is called cough variant asthma. You should see your doctor to confirm the diagnosis and rule out any other causes. Treatment is similar to that for asthma in general. Depending on the severity of cough, inhaled albuterol or short course of steroids may be needed. In addition, your doctor may prescribe maintenance therapy with inhaled steroids.
