Better options: Overall valerian is considered safe. There are a very few case reports of liver injury (temporarily elevated enzymes, one mild fibrosis) so it would be best to try other botanicals such as lemon balm, chamomile, passionflower and milky oats. It may turn out, as with kava, that other substances were to blame. Good brands include nature's way (purple top), gaia, herbsetc, herbpharm, eclectic etc.

Valerian Root: This product has been linked to significant liver injury in people with normal livers. It had also been associated with kidney injury. It is not recommended for pregnant or breast feeding women. Since you already have fatty liver, it would be prudent to avoid valerian root. Any medications should be reviewed with your physician.
