Does cardiology office do ldl receptor gene mutation screening? if not, where can it be done? does insurance cover cost? what's the cost if self pay?

Possibly: Certainly, a cardiologist's office can help facilitate testing. Coverage for testing is variable and you would need to consult your insurer.

Not likely: This is an unusual test that is not done in most offices and most insurers will not pay for. There is little evidence that information from this test will be useful in the management of cholesterol abnormalities.

Genetics: Contact your pcp or cardiologist for guidance. The out of pocket cost varies depending where you live and which lab you go to. Most likely insurance company's will not pay for it.
