Start S-L-O-W-L-Y: If the diverticulitis is severe enough to require hospitalization and IV antibiotics, we usually hold off on any food until the inflammation decreases, after which we start food slowly: first liquids and then a low-residue diet for at least a couple of weeks. Therefore, i would avoid red meat early on and re-introduce it in your diet in moderation after all your symptoms have completely resolved.

Depends : If this is acute (just started) u have to see a doctor and usually nothing to eat or drink until things are better. When eating, u have to b on low residue diet for 4 to 6 wks. Red meats can b hard to digest but ok to take. After 6 weeks, high fiber is the key to prevent future complications.
