Gastric ulcers: are erosions on the stomach while gastritis could be erosions with inflammation or inflammation. Biopsy dose differentiate. Treament is the same and dependent if the biopsy is H pylori positive or presence of dysplasia

No: They are not the same, but sometimes have similar symptoms and treatment. Gastritis is an inflammation of the stomach lining, while an ulcer is a hole in the lining of the stomach. It may be they were looking for an ulcer or thought they saw one, but biopsy showed the inflammation did not extend thru the lining, so this would be gastritis. Avoid ibuprofen, alcohol. Meds like omeprazole will help

Not the same: When the stomach lining looks intact but reddish(inflamed) and perhaps bleeds easily when swabbed(friable) it is called gastritis. A gastric ulcer is where part of the Lining of the stomach(the mucosa) is no longer intact but is worn away(eroded) enough so that a visible depression is seen on endoscopy. A biopsy is not necessary to diagnose an ulcer.
