Psychiatry can help: The human mind-body is not static. The body, thoughts and feelings are constantly changing. Talk therapy has helped many people to change their mind about suicide. In addition, a psychiatrist can prescribe medications which can be helpful for deep depression. Change is always possible.

WRONG WORD.: You cure something like aninfection. This an emotional problem. It isnt forever, and if a person can be protected while the urge lasts, an understanding of the hopelessness (and meds) can disrupt a wish to die. Psychotherapy is definitely indicated.

Suicide: I agree w the answers that you have been provided. In over 3 decades, I have met a handful of people that were absolutely determined that they would kill themselves. One was an alcoholic, depressed man whose father, grandfather & all brothers's had committed suicide before age 40 years old. I only treated him as a inpatient. I worked hard to help him but frankly his mind set did not seem to >>.

Depends...: Attempting suicide is a choice made by an individual and if it is to be 'cured' it is up to the individual. Psychiatrists are trained to assess suicidal individuals and develope a plan to both treat the individual and keep them safe.
