That really depends: Someone who talks about suicide when intoxicated may need to sober up. Someone dealing with an acute problem, may need to see that there are other solutions besides suicide. Someone who is despondent, has lost hope & is chronically suicidal - may need much more time. There is no one-size fits all answer. It all depends on the person & where they are at.
