Bronchitis: A productive cough with discolored, thick phlegm in an otherwise healthy young adult is probably bacterial or viral infection, and if lasting over a week or accompanied by shortness of breath, fever, or that "hit by a bus" feeling, i would recommend seeing a doctor to rule out pneumonia and get an antibiotic. Otherwise, drink lots of fluids, take otc Mucinex (guaifenesin), and get plenty of rest.
