Post nasal drip: During the night, significant amounts of mucus can collect in the upper airway, back of the throat/nose. Upon awakening, the body's response is to expel this mucus to clear the airway. When mucus is exposed to air it is oxidized (turns yellow or green). If it stays discolored, think of infection, if it goes clear during day, think allergy. An allergist can assist in diagnosis and treatment.
