SHAPE OF STAIN: Speak to the doctor who ordered the test. The titer result and pattern (speckled) may suggest a diagnosis of a connective tissue disease if correlated with the history and physical findings.

Need more testing: ANA is a screening test. A positive result only indicates more testing might be needed. The speckled portion of the result is not very helpful on its own.
