My teen had ana test but now dr is saying we need a "reflex titer" blood test. what is it and does that mean ana positive?

Suggestive of auto-: Immune disorder. A high concentration of anti-nuclear antibody is one indicator or auto-immune disease. Titer is one expression for concentration of a particular antibody. See this site for info on ana: http://www.Nlm.Nih.Gov/medlineplus/ency/article/003535.Htm.

If it's positive : Positive ANA shows that there is a high possibility of autoimmune disorders. But it's not specific, to find the autoimmune disorder you need to do the test for specific antibodies. Like dsdna, sm, jo1 and more which is indicator of diseases like lupus, dermatomyositis, sjogren, scleroderma, rheumatoid arthritis, .When a test comes positive you have the diagnosis otherwise the next series is needed.
