Suggest 1-2 hours: Drink as much as u feel like, but if it's a good 45 minute workout, would wait 1-2 hrs. Also wouldn't work out within 1-2 of sleeping. The 'work' of digestion causes a major shift of your blood from your skeletal muscle (biceps, quads etc) to your visceral muscles (gut etc). Therefore, would also not exercise till 1-2 hrs after eating.

Immediately: If you are hungry, eat imemdiately but slowly. It may take 30 minutes until circulation is redistributed from muscles to other organs. Drink lots of fluid, chew food slowly, take small bites.
