Discussion with your: Doctor. Why are you being prescribed dilantin? Do you have seizures? Are your symptoms under control? It would be good to discuss the matter with your doctor who is prescribing the medication as s/he has more information about your health.

Faster breakdown: Dilantin, like many anti-seizure meds, can speed up certain enzymes in the liver that metabolize, or break down thyroid hormone into inactive chemicals. Since more thyroid hormone is broken down on a daily basis, more must be put into the bloodstream to keep levels up. The thyroid can usually do this naturally, but if someone is already needed pills, a stronger pill may be needed w/ dilantin.
