Depends: The thought is that most people probably don't lose more than 2 pounds of fat in a week. So if someone loses more than that then some of the weight loss can be excess water or muscle mass. So eating less calories, especially eating less carbs (bread, rice, pasta, potato, fruit juice and pop), and making sure you are getting protein daily and plenty of water usually works well.
