Interesting : Interesting question. According to www.Doublecheckmd.Com hearing problems is not a known side effect of labetalol, and yet other ( ? Reputable sites) say dizziness, ear pain, hearing loss, tinnitis and vertigo can occur. Of 478 respondents on 4/21/12 using Labetalol repoted on www.Ehealthme.Com 0% reported side effects of hearing loss. How can you be sure your hearing loss is because of the Labetalol and not something else (i.e., earwax, fluid in your middle ear, eustacian tube dysfunction, etc). Before insisting on switching a medication, have an understanding of the problem first explained by a knowledgeable physician. You certainly need a good ear exam, and probably an audiogram. If this can't be done by your primary physician get a referral to an ent. " ototoxicity" simply refers to a drug/therapy that has a negative impact on inner ear (hearing and/or balance) function and can be temporary or permanent, reversible or irreversible. "detoxify" is a word that shoul be replaced with "appropriately treat".

See ENT: Beta blockers such as labetolol are not known to cause hearing loss. See your local ENT and have a hearing test. Hopefully he/she will be able to better establish the cause of your decline in hearing.
