Unfortunately, : Unfortunately, this history without the benefit of an examination is inadequate to make a diagnosis. It is possible your sister had an asthma attack that may have been triggered by acid reflux in the throat. This could explain the difficulties with expiration (particularly if wheezing was present) and the discharge from the er on presumed bronchodilators. Globus sensation (lump in throat feeling) can be associated with LPR ( acid in throat) and can worsen lower respiratory tract conditions. This is mere speculation. A good ENT exam should be able to clarify this for you.
