Sure: I can't see why not. You can always ask. There may be some privacy issues that may prevent full disclosure. The death certificate would also have the cause of death.

So sorry: For your loss. This is a difficult time. You absolutely can and should ask your father's physicians what happened so you can come to closure with that. Keep on mind that they won't always know for sure but they should tell you what they do know. Also keep in mind that whoever is considered "next of kin" (usually his wife - who may be your mom) may need to give the doctors permission to tell you.
