It : It seems you are grinding and or clenching your teeth while you are sleeping. The longer this goes on, the more likely you will have a tendency to have such symptoms as: sensitive and sore teeth, sore muscles, aches and pains around your jaw and jaw joints. This is usually related to the stress that you may be experiencing in your life. If you know why you have the additional stress lately, perhpaps you can find ways to reduce that stress and see if those symtoms subside. If this period of clenching is short lived, i wouldn't be too concerned. However, if this is an ongoing problem, i would strongly recommend that you see your dentist to evaluate the situation and consider some palliative treatment and possibly a night guard. Long term chenching and grinding habits can damage your teeth and jaw joint.

If : If you wake with sore teeth, both upper and lower it is most likely due to night time grinding or clenching. The most immediate remedy is to get yourself a night guard. There are simple over the counter ones you can try. However, the over the counter ones rarely fit correctly. It may be a better option to get a custom guard from your dentist. Consistent grinding or clenching can cause premature wear to the teeth, cause teeth to fracture and will cause bone loss and gum recession. The guard will slow down the process while it is being worn. However, the grinding and clenching may actually be happening because of a unbalanced bite relationship. Having your dentist change the bite so it is properly balanced may be the best solution. Be sure to have your bite checked.
