Hard to pinpoint: Sometimes patients come to us with pain that they cannot quite pinpoint where it is coming from. Dental pain can cause discomfort in just one tooth, or be "referent pain" in an area that can seem to move around. It may be that infection is spreading to other area, as well. Be sure to have it evaluated by a dentist.

Referred pain: It is not uncommon to experience pain in one tooth, but to have the dental problem diagnosed with a different one. This is called referred pain. Pain from an infected tooth can travel from tooth to tooth on the same side of the jaw or from the top teeth to a bottom tooth, and sometimes even to the ear. See a dentist for treatment.
