Afrin (oxymetazoline): You can try some afrin nasal spray before descent... If you fly a lot.. You may want to consider having tubes placed in the ears.

Prevention is best: Once ears plug up tightly it will be hard to equalize the air pressure. You may gently blow while pinching the nose closed once plugged. To avoid this you should yawn, chew gum, etc as you as the cabin pressure starts to increase upon your plane's descent.
