Has : Has your friend been to combat? If he does have ptsd, it can be an illness that causes serious damage to relationships. What you are describing is not an "antisocial attitude". Antisocial is someone who lacks a conscience. It sounds like your friend is having difficulty tolerating being around others and may be experiencing panic attacks. People with ptsd often self medicate with alcohol. My guess is that he is feeling very anxious and miserable. It is up to you if you want to maintain a friendship but i hope he is willing to get help.

You : You are indeed a friend and i would encourage you tell him of your concerns. I am not certain from your description why you suggested ptsd, which it certainly could be, but absent a trauma history, or military action, the symptoms could be panic/anxiety attacks. Assure him that there is help available (especially if he is a veteran) and that he need not have to suffer as he is nor put valuable friendships at risk. Ultimately, only a good evaluation, starting with his family doctor, will sort out what needs to be done.
