Both + CBT.: Ssri's or snri's are both effective for treating ptsd but cbt needs to be done in conjunction with medications.

Dr will recommend: Choosing an ssri is such an individual thing. Have a psychiatrist evaluate and determine which one. Additionally, particularly for ptsd, therapy is often helpful, especially for phobia's and the symptoms you describe. Exposure therapy helps with phobia's. Trauma informed cbt therapy for ptsd.

PTSD: There isn't a one best ssri for your patient. The ssri can best be selected based on responsiveness & side effects. I often use zoloft, Celexa or lexapro (escitalopram). It is it imperative that your patient also receive other support services. If ptsd is particularly severe, he may might need to be stabilized on medications first. Cognitive processing therapy is a type of cognitive behavioral therapy that is.
