It : It depends on the location and severity of the symptoms you're having. If the pain is localized to the shoulder and is severe enough to prevent you from moving the shoulder comfortably, an x-ray might be reasonable. Keep in mind, there are also soft tissue injuries that can result from a direct blow injury that might not show up on an x-ray. If the pain radiates down your arm past the shoulder, you might need to have your neck examined. In any event, if your pain doesn't respond to ice, rest and over the counter analgesics (like tylenol) i'd advise seeing your orthopedic surgeon for an evaluation.
