A member asked:

Can fillings be whitened like teeth? i want to have my teeth whitened, but have a few porcelain fillings from years ago that i'm afraid would remain darker and look strange. so, will any of the whitening methods also whiten porcelain fillings?

In : In general tooth colored fillings will not whiten. Interestingly enough I have seen surface stain come out of these fillings due to the whitening process but this can be unpredictable. I would only move forward if you are willing to replace any fillings that don't whiten to your satifaction or are willing to live with the difference.

Porcelain : Porcelain restoration don't discolor and can't be bleached as well. Composite filling material are susceptible to get discolored but bleaching can only remove the stains.

Unfortunately : Unfortunately fillings whether porcelain or composite cannot be whitened after being placed. If you are going to have them whitened you will need to have the fillings replaced. Nothing will be able to whiten those materials.
