You : You should be confused so am i. If you were on the 50 microgram (not milligram) dose for a good 6-8 weeks and you had a TSH of 0.53 on that dose, that dose of levothyroxine is just right for you. You will be on too much if you go to 100 mcg. You might do better consulting with an endocrinologist.

I : I would agree that a second opinion is warranted based on your recent advice. Your TSH has come down nicely while being on 50mcg of levothyroxine. Only when you have central hypothyroidism that a further dose adjustment may be needed depending on your T4 levels. The concern I have for you is that with doubling the dose, you may end up with induced hyperthyroidism which can lead to a host of other problems. Good luck. Cayce t.
