I : I assume it was your TSH that was 4.2. Your dose of thyroxine is low. You would need to simply stop that medication and have repeat labs checked in 2 weeks. A test of anti thyroid peroxidase antibodies would also be helpful as would an exam to see if your thyroid is enlarged. Check with your doctor to arrange this and watch for hypothyroid symptoms. If you have hypothyroidism there is nothing proven that helps you "rebuild" it. Check out the site below.

If : If your thyroid levels are good on the current levothyroxine dose you have stated (125 mcg), then it will be very unusual for you to come off supplementation completely or that you have been misdiagnosed (i assume your dose was titrated from 25mcg based on a serial of thyroid tests). Having psychological stress can potentially be confounded with not treating your hypothyroidism and i urge your to discuss it with your physician before any decisions are made. Hypothyroidism for being caused by an under active , misplaced or inflamed thyroid gland can only be treated using levothyroxine (which is very similar to the body's own version). Good luck. Cayce t.
