It : It is not advisable for you to perform surgery on yourself. Dentists spend eight years learning to do what you would like to do to yourself with absolutely no experience. What instruments to you plan on using? How will you handle the bleeding and the pain, let alone the complications of using unsanitary equipment? You will need to see a dentist to treat your infection and extract your broken tooth. Please do not try this. Call your county social services department.

Short : Short of being stranded on a deserted island without hope of rescue (see tom hanks) i would not recommend attempting to extract your tooth. The risk of damage to adjacent structures such as nerves or the sinuses, inability to recover all the tooth fragments leading to continued pain and potential for infection, and risk of fracture of the jaw are all reasons to seek professional care. Under the best circumstances and with the proper equipment, the extraction of teeth is a challenging surgery best left to trained professionals such as your general dentist or board certified oral and maxillofacial surgeon.

I : I totally agree with the other docs: do not ever attempt to pull your own tooth. There are so many nerves and blood vessels in your mouth that you could do serious harm to yourself. We all have patients that have pulled there own teeth, this always is a very loose tooth, like a baby. A tooth like you are describing sound like an oral surgeon's job, most general dentists would attempt extracting a tooth that is broken and decayed to the gum line.
