I noticed a small light brown spot on my gum, just below my bottom tooth. what could it be? it is not inflamed, nor does it hurt i brush and use mouthwash regularly and have never had any dental problems.

It : It may not be anything, but it's best you have it checked by an oral surgeon. No pain or inflammation is not a reason to leave it alone. Cannot do a differential diagnosis of a lesion, sight unseen, over the internet.

I : I agree with dr. Davantzis' recommendation.. Unusual pigmentation in the mouth may be something a benign as racial pigmentation or a freckle or an concerning as cancer such as a melanoma. The only way of getting an accurate answer is have the lesion evaluated by a specialist and obtaining a biopsy of the tissue, usually a simple in office procedure done under local anesthesia.
