There are numerous reasons why the WBC count would be elevated, but infection is at the top of the list. Being that you know you already have an infection (pneumonia), that's the most obvious explanation for the high wbc. I assume you're taking antibiotics for your pneumonia. If so, in time, you'll feel better and your WBC should return to normal. If you develop a fever or chills, even if you're taking antibiotics, you need to report this to your doctor immediately.

Yes: Bacterial pneumonia is accompanied by elevated white blood cell count. However, if the count remains high more than a week after the fever is gone, a different reasons needs to be determined.
