Yes: Any type of infection, pneumonia being one of the most common, can cause significant hyperglycemia/hypoglycemia in patients with preexistent diabetes.

Absolutely.: Any infection can raise the blood sugar a bit. Numbers will go down once the infection resolves. Just make sure any antibiotic you may get is safe for your kidneys.
