You : You ask an excellent question. Good to see you are thinking ahead. You will not be able to wear both aligners and a night guard at the same time. And yes, the aligners will act as sort of a nightguard. Since you only wear each set for about two weeks, your grinding can damage them only so much before you are putting a brand new set in. Ask the dentist who will be treating you what their opinion on this is, too.

If : If invisalign is appropriate for you, you need not worry about grinding. The invisalign aligners will protect your teeth while you are wearing them. Additionally, most people do not grind their teeth while undergoing orthodontics because their teeth are sore from the movement and it hurts too much to grind! unfortunately, once the tooth movement is done, they resume grinding again.

When : When we make aligners for our patients they no longer need to wear a night guard. The aligners can take the strain of the bite for the brief two week period that you will be wearing each aligner, and you dentist is able to add special contact protectors onto the guard at the "clin check" as we call it, when we are reviewing the design for the aligners. So now problem. Congratulations on moving forwards with invisaline. Dr neil mcleod dds dentistry that lasts - quality that counts.

Yes.: The pair of upper and lower clear aligners position plastic between your teeth. You may yet "grind" or brux and that might damage the aligners over time, but you will be changing them every 2 weeks. After orthodontics, a new bruxism guard may be required to protect your new smile.

Usually: If invisalign is a good option to correct your malocclusion the aligners will act as your nightguard did to protect your teeth. Since you are wearing aligners on both top and bottom teeth that will keep the teeth apart, and since the aligners are changed every 2 weeks you will not wear through them. Be sure to ask the orthodontist if there are additional steps that are needed with the grinding.

Yes: The aligners will protect your teeth. You may want to consider biofeedback therapy to break the grinding habit.

Be careful: Invisalign is only about half as effective as braces in the hands of a qualified orthodontic specialist. In the hands of gp, less so. And it's usually more expensive. Your grinding may indicate a number of different occlusal problems. Don't be fooled by tv advertising. Go see an orthodontist for a qualified opinion. Make a decision based on your personal need, not on the hardware.
