Hello. : Hello. Monilial esophagitis is inflammation of the esophagus. That is the tube that connects the mouth to the stomach. Monilia is another name for candida albicans. This is usually an opportunistic infection, which means that it occurs in people who have been immuno compromised. It can be very painful and make it difficult to swallow. You might have thrush (white film in your mouth). People often lose weight because it becomes painful to swallow food.
