What is the quality of life of patients who have one lung removed?

Depends: This really depends on how good lung function was before pneumonectomy (removal of one lung). If lung function was good (fev1 > 70%) there should be minimal impairment after surgery.

It depends: It depends on the patient's preoperative lung function that is measured by pulmonary function tests (pft) and ventilation/perfusions scans. Based on the tests drs can predict postoperative function. If below a certain number, then there may be risk of complications and poor quality of life. Talk to a boarded thoracic surgeon before having a pneumonectomy (whole lung removed).
